Year 7 Transition
Moving from Grade 6 to Year 7 is an exciting time for a young person, where they'll be in a new place, making new friends, taking new subjects, and facing new challenges.
In Year 7, as their brains develop and they start accessing new cognitive skills they haven't had before, students start being introduced to new demands on their numeracy and literacy abilities.
Starting this phase of their journey on the right foot is a great way for a young student to build confidence in themselves as a learner.
The Sessions
Numeracy
Our numeracy session will focus on building the foundations for confidence dealing with numbers and mathematics. The session will be designed to help students build a toolkit for problem solving and number sense that will help them in their approach to dealing with numbers across subjects and learning areas, particularly Maths.
The session is specifically tailored to serve as an intro to the Numeracy levels expected in Year 7 classes, outlined by the Australian Curriculum.
Literacy
Literacy isn't just about reading and comprehension of the boring old books in the English classroom. Students use literacy skills every time they use or encounter written, spoken, or visual texts and language. As such, a good foundation of literacy skills puts students in a strong position to navigate their way through worded questions, written responses, and getting the most out of information presented in class.
The Basecamp Education Literacy session is designed to help students build the skills that will help them make sense of and effectively use language across subjects.
